About
'Akita yatsubusa' is an exceptionally compact dwarf cultivar with dense, rounded branching and small leaves resembling those of 'Kamagata'. New growth emerges in bronze and coral-pink tones before maturing to green; summer flushes bring renewed bronze coloring, and foliage shifts to red in autumn. The plant typically reaches 2-4 feet in height and width over 10 years, forming a distinctive dome-shaped habit. According to the growers at Mr Maple, the cultivar's name derives from Akita Prefecture in Japan combined with *yatsubusa*, meaning small and compact; its dense structure, fine texture, and naturally refined form make it an excellent choice for containers, patios, and bonsai training, where it performs particularly well as a beginner specimen.
