About
Silver Moon is an upright Japanese maple reaching 12-15 feet at maturity, distinguished by luminous silver bark that glows with near-metallic sheen on young stems and ages to silver-gray on mature wood, an ornamental quality rarely seen in the genus. Foliage emerges chartreuse-green in spring on red petioles, transitions through summer, and delivers a full autumn sequence of yellows, oranges, and reds before leaf drop. A vigorous grower with strong sun tolerance, 'Silver Moon' was discovered as a chance seedling of 'Moonrise' at Mendocino Maples Nursery approximately six years ago, inheriting its parent's vigor while introducing exceptional four-season ornamental appeal.
