About
'Olsen's Frosted Strawberry' is a Japanese maple with deeply lobed, narrow leaflets that display reticulated variegation, a distinctive vein-pattern style in which bright pink-red early spring foliage shows deep red veining that gradually mellows to cream and soft pink by mid-spring, creating a frosted appearance that gives the cultivar its name. Fall color progresses through orange to bright red. The tree grows slowly to semi-weeping, reaching approximately 6-7 feet tall and wide in ten years, making it suitable for containers or landscape planting. According to the growers at Mr Maple, this introduction by the late Harry Olson is prized for its ever-changing seasonal color; the cultivar thrives with afternoon shade protection and excellent drainage, particularly in regions with hot summers.
