Disanthus ovatifolius - Redbud Hazel

Disanthus ovatifolius is a semi-evergreen shrub to small tree native to the mountains of northern Vietnam, reaching approximately 10 feet at maturity. Its narrowly ovate leaves emerge with purple-red tones in spring, gradually maturing to deep green, then displaying autumn color before drop. In late autumn and early winter, paired ribbon-like pink-red flowers bloom in the manner of witch-hazel relatives, providing distinctive seasonal interest. The plant prefers humus-rich, moist, acidic soil in dappled to full shade and requires minimal pruning once established.
