About
Acer wuyuanense, commonly called Chocolate Maple, is a rare East Asian species distinguished by rich chocolate-brown new growth in spring and early summer, maturing to green; the deeply lobed leaves resemble those of Japanese maple in form. Growth habit is vigorous when young but moderates with age, reaching 12-15 feet or taller over decades; the tree develops an upright, graceful branching structure suitable as a specimen or woodland planting. It tolerates part shade to full sun and performs best in zones 7-9, where it displays reliable hardiness and adaptability.
