About
'Shira Red' is a rare hybrid between Acer shirasawanum and Acer palmatum that combines the large, full red foliage of palmatum selections with the distinctive ascending branching structure and upward-facing seeds characteristic of shirasawanum. The leaves display vibrant orange tones during autumn. This cultivar develops into a mid-sized tree reaching approximately 10 feet tall over ten years, best grown with afternoon shade protection.
