Acer shirasawanum Red Dawn Seedling Japanese Maples

Seedlings from Acer shirasawanum 'Red Dawn' display bright red to purple-red spring foliage characteristic of this full moon maple type, though individual plants may vary as they mature. These seedlings are not true to the parent cultivar and show moderate to slight color and form variation; fall color development is also variable among offspring. They typically reach 8-10 feet tall within 15 years and benefit from afternoon shade in warm climates. As seedlings of a red-leafed full moon maple selection, they offer the possibility of discovering unique variations within the species.
