About
'Vic's Broom' is a dwarf Japanese maple arising from a witch's broom mutation, characterized by extremely small, deeply lobed leaves with a distinctively shortened center lobe that creates a rounded, compact appearance. New growth emerges bright red over chartreuse-green foliage, with summer shoots displaying pink-red contrast against darker older growth; fall color transitions to yellow infused with red and orange tones. The plant reaches 3-4 feet in height and width over ten years, developing a dense, spreading globe form well-suited to containers, small gardens, and bonsai development. According to the growers at Mr. Maple, this cultivar displays notable heat tolerance and performs reliably in full sun to part shade, making it a versatile choice for gardeners seeking a compact maple with the color qualities of larger Japanese maple selections.
