About
Acer palmatum 'Van Essen Gold' is a newer selection featuring deeply lobed, finely serrated foliage characteristic of the matsumurae group. New growth emerges golden yellow, gradually fading to light green as leaves mature. In autumn, foliage transitions to yellow and orange tones. The cultivar develops an upright habit, reaching 8-10 feet tall in approximately 10 years.
