About
'Utsu semi' is distinguished by unusually short lobes that create a dense, fine texture uncommon among Japanese maples. Spring foliage emerges in vivid light green, darkening only slightly through summer while remaining notably pale; in autumn leaves transition to orange and purple while veins retain green coloration. This slow-growing cultivar develops a broad, rounded form, typically achieving equal or greater width than height, reaching 6-8 feet in both dimensions at maturity. It prefers afternoon shade in warmer climates and is rarely encountered in cultivation due to slow growth and propagation difficulties.
