Acer palmatum 'Tom Thumb' Dwarf Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum 'Tom Thumb' is an exceptionally dwarf cultivar, typically reaching 2-4 feet in height and width at maturity, with dense, tightly layered foliage characteristic of the Mikawa yatsabusa group. Small, deeply lobed leaves emerge lime green in spring, transition to kelly green by midsummer, and develop orange and red autumn tones. According to the growers at Mr Maple, this cultivar was introduced by Elizabeth Mundy of Acer Acres and represents one of the smallest Japanese maple variants available, with an extremely slow growth rate that makes it ideal for container gardening, bonsai, and confined garden spaces. Though it tolerates partial shade, 'Tom Thumb' performs well in moderate sun and pairs effectively with other dwarf cultivars in miniature and fairy garden settings.
