About
'Strawberry Spring' is a reticulated Japanese maple with deeply lobed leaves that emerge bright strawberry-pink in spring with dark green veining, transition to creamy white or pale green through summer, and shift to warm orange-red in autumn. This upright, moderately spreading cultivar reaches approximately 7-8 feet tall and develops a strong branching habit suitable for landscape specimens as well as containers. The plant performs best with morning sun and afternoon shade, particularly in warmer climates where afternoon protection preserves the intense spring coloring and prevents leaf scorch; it requires well-drained, slightly acidic soil and consistent moisture. According to the growers at Mr Maple, 'Strawberry Spring' originated as a chance seedling from 'Amber Ghost' discovered by Talon Buckolz in 2008, and it has earned recognition as an exceptional performer among the newer ghost-series introductions, combining vigorous growth with the striking reticulated variegation the series is known for.
