Acer palmatum 'Squitty' Dwarf Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum 'Squitty' is a dwarf cultivar with pink and cream variegation on spring foliage that matures to white, while summer growth flushes solid green before returning variegated in the following year. The foliage displays elongated, somewhat irregular lobes with a sharp appearance reminiscent of dwarf hiyama-style maples. Growth is slow and densely compact, reaching approximately 3-4 feet over 10 years, with fall color shifting from bold red to orange. According to the growers at Mr Maple, this cultivar originated as a seedling found by Harold Johnson at Buck Holtz Nursery and was named for its unusually compact, squat growth habit; it remains an ideal choice for containers and small gardens, particularly in conifer plantings where its refined stature and distinctive variegation create strong visual interest.
