Acer palmatum 'Sir Happy' Ultra-Dwarf Japanese Maple

'Sir Happy' is an ultra-dwarf Japanese maple with tiny, crinkled green leaves and an open, sculptural branching habit. Exceptionally slow-growing, among the slowest of all Japanese maple cultivars, it typically remains only a few inches tall even after several years, making it highly prized by collectors. According to the growers at Mr Maple, the most common cause of failure is overwatering; the cultivar requires well-drained soil and should be allowed to dry between waterings far more thoroughly than typical Japanese maples. Best suited to container cultivation or elevated rock gardens with excellent drainage, it benefits from bright shade to morning sun and protection from heavy rainfall and winter extremes.
