Acer palmatum 'Shu shidare' Weeping Japanese Maple

'Shu shidare' is a weeping laceleaf cultivar with deeply dissected foliage that displays exceptional color throughout the season: red-orange new growth in spring, blue-green interior leaves with orange-red tips in midsummer, and brilliant orange fall color. The name references its characteristic orange tones and strongly weeping habit. This selection was discovered as a seedling by Talon Buckholtz and grows approximately 5 feet tall by 6 feet wide over ten years, developing a graceful, low-spreading branching pattern with purple-red new stems that further enhance its ornamental value. According to the growers at Mr Maple, the tree performs well in both sun and shade, adapts readily to containers or garden planting, and pairs effectively with other laceleaf cultivars while offering a distinctive multiseason color range that few Japanese maples provide.
