About
Acer palmatum 'Sekka yatsubusa' is a dwarf cultivar distinguished by exceptionally short internodes that create densely clustered foliage along the stems, with deeply divided leaves featuring red-tinged margins and red petioles. As the plant matures, it develops characteristic fasciated (flattened) stems with congested branching, creating an unusual architectural form. Growth is slow initially but accelerates under favorable conditions, reaching 3-5 feet tall and 2-4 feet wide at maturity. The foliage turns reliable red in autumn, and the plant tolerates a wide range of light conditions from heavy shade to full sun, though best performance occurs in partial shade with well-drained, elevated soil.
