About
'Sanguineum' emerges in early spring with bright orange-red foliage on medium-sized, rounded leaves, distinguishing it from deeper maroon upright Japanese maples. As summer progresses, chartreuse-green tones blend through the red leaves, while fall brings intense orange and red hues. This upright cultivar develops into a mid-sized tree, reaching approximately 10 feet tall within 15 years. Note that 'Sanguineum' exists in both green and red selections; this red form derives from stock originally grafted from the National Arboretum's Henry Hohman collection.
