Acer palmatum 'Red Feathers' Dwarf Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum dissectum 'Red Feathers' is an exceptionally dwarf, weeping Japanese maple distinguished by extraordinarily fine, threadlike dissected foliage, among the thinnest of all lace-leaf varieties. Leaves emerge bright red in spring, deepen to dark maroon by late spring, often greenish-red during summer, and return to bright crimson in autumn. It reaches 3-4 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide over ten years with a dense, cascading habit, making it one of the slowest-growing red dissectum selections and ideal for small spaces and containers. According to the growers at Mr Maple, 'Red Feathers' arose as a chance seedling discovered beneath the original 'Burgundy Lace' at Vermeulen and Sons Nursery, a remarkable origin given its diminutive stature compared to its massive parent. For best results, provide morning sun with afternoon shade to sustain red coloration, ensure excellent drainage (particularly important in containers), and pair with contrasting groundcovers or companion plantings to showcase its fine leaf texture.
