Acer palmatum 'Omato' Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum 'Omato' is an upright Japanese maple with large, deeply lobed amoenum-type leaves that emerge dark green in spring before transitioning through deep red to brilliant scarlet in autumn, among the brightest fall colors in the species. The tree reaches 10-12 feet tall and wide in ten years, developing into a vigorous, midsized specimen with a bold presence in the garden. According to the growers at Mr Maple, 'Omato' is notably cold-hardy for an amoenum cultivar, thriving in zones 5-9 and tolerating temperatures to −7 °C, while also performing well in warmer regions. Its pronounced seasonal transformation and striking fall display make it an effective focal point, particularly valued in traditional Japanese-style gardens.
