About
'Nuresagi', known as the Wet Heron maple, is a vigorous upright cultivar with deep red foliage that holds color exceptionally well throughout the growing season. Young growth emerges burgundy with a distinctive blue cast from silver pubescence on the leaf undersides, maturing to very dark red or purple-red summer foliage before shifting to bright crimson in autumn. The tree develops an upright, columnar habit and produces substantial annual growth, typically reaching 8-10 feet in height after 10 years. According to the growers at Mr Maple, this is a classic Japanese selection valued for its dark coloration, among the darkest of Japanese maples, and performs best in full sun, where its autumn foliage glows brilliantly; it pairs well in the landscape with golden-leaved or evergreen companions to emphasize its rich color contrast.
