Acer palmatum 'Nancy’s Legacy’ Toyama Japanese Maple

'Nancy's Legacy' is a weeping laceleaf Japanese maple with distinctive spring and seasonal color progression. New foliage emerges bright pink accented by chartreuse-to-emerald green centers, maturing through summer to bronze-green and transitioning to orange and yellow in autumn. This cultivar reaches approximately 5 feet tall and wide at maturity with a low, cascading umbrella form; it grows more slowly than other red laceleafs and suits smaller spaces and container gardens. According to the growers at Mr Maple, 'Nancy's Legacy' originated as a reversion of *Toyama Nishiki* discovered by Nancy Fears of Mountain Maples, one of the earliest mail-order Japanese maple suppliers in the United States, and was named to honor her contributions to maple cultivation. It thrives in zones 5-9 with excellent drainage and benefits from afternoon shade protection, particularly in warmer climates; it can tolerate substantial sun in zone 8 and earlier morning exposure even in zone 9.
