Acer palmatum 'Marmalade' Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum 'Marmalade' is a compact Japanese maple celebrated for sustained seasonal color impact. New spring growth emerges in bold orange-red tones, then transitions to warm yellow-orange with green highlights throughout the growing season, a persistence of color unusual among spring-interest maples, before returning to orange-red in autumn. The plant reaches 6-8 feet in height over 10 years with a naturally multi-stemmed, densely branching habit, growing approximately one foot per year. According to the growers at Mr Maple, this cultivar was discovered as a seedling at the Florida Arboretum under an 'Orange Dream' parent at Buchholz Nursery by Talon Buchholz, and its yellow undertones throughout the season distinguish it from other orange-spring maples. In warmer climates, light afternoon shade and morning sun best preserve the intense foliar colors; it performs well even in sunnier spots in cooler regions and pairs effectively with cultivars such as 'Mila' and 'Naniwa Beni' for spring color contrast.
