About
'Kurui Jishi' is a dwarf Japanese maple distinguished by upward-curling leaf lobes that create a distinctive textured appearance, with foliage nearly identical to the larger 'Okushimo' but on a more compact plant. It reaches 6-8 feet in height and width at maturity, developing a rounded shrubby form, and displays pink-tinged leaf stems in summer before shifting to yellow and orange in autumn. According to Simply Japanese Maples, the name refers to its "crazy lion" appearance, created by the characteristic upward curl of the leaf margins. Well-suited to small garden spaces, it performs reliably in part shade to full sun.
