About
'Koyamadani nishiki' is an upright Japanese maple with highly distinctive foliage that changes character as it matures. Young leaves emerge with pointed lobes in lime green, gradually developing the cultivar's signature rounded, snowflake-like appearance by midsummer in kelly green; this unusual leaf morphology, marked by shortened rounded center nodes, persists through the growing season and transitions to golden yellow with orange accents in fall. The tree reaches approximately 8-10 feet tall with a spreading, semi-upright habit that creates a lively, textured silhouette in the landscape. According to the growers at Mr Maple, this cultivar was discovered as a seedling by Japanese maple authority Masao Yano in Shiga Prefecture, Japan; it represents a notable departure from typical Acer palmate leaf forms and pairs effectively with both fine-textured and bold-colored maples for garden composition.
