About
Acer palmatum 'Kogane sakae' emerges in early spring with large, light green leaves displaying a thick deep purple-red border that gradually fades to rich green by late summer. In autumn, foliage turns bright gold and orange. The cultivar reaches 8-10 feet in height at maturity and exhibits distinctive bright yellow striations in the bark, providing ornamental winter interest uncommon among Japanese maples. The name translates as "Golden Prosperity," referring to both the vibrant fall coloration and the striking bark characteristics.
