Acer palmatum 'Japanese Princess' Japanese Maple in Bonsai Pot

'Japanese Princess' is a dwarf Mikawa yatsubusa cultivar selected for its striking spring foliage, which emerges yellow with soft pink tones before fading to green in summer and turning bright red in autumn. The tree develops a naturally dense, layered branching structure characteristic of the Mikawa type, reaching approximately 3-4 feet tall and proportionally wide in 15 years, making it well-suited to container cultivation or small garden plantings. According to Gardening With Maples, the spring color typically persists for two to three weeks depending on temperature and light conditions, with occasional secondary flushes of yellow-pink foliage appearing later in the growing season. The cultivar is slow-growing and tolerant of morning to midday sun with afternoon shade, though afternoon exposure may shorten the spring color display; it performs reliably in hardiness zones 5-9.
