About
Acer palmatum 'Hitode' is a dwarf cultivar distinguished by distinctly cupped, downward-folding leaves with a full, moon-like form, possibly reflecting some Acer shirasawanum heritage. Spring growth emerges mauve-purple before transitioning to green through summer and shifting to yellow-orange in autumn. This slow to moderate grower reaches 6-8 feet in 15 years and prefers afternoon shade protection in warmer climates.
