Acer palmatum 'Hanezu hagoromo' is a dense, multi-stemmed Japanese maple with the finely divided, feathery foliage characteristic of the sessilifolium leaf type. New growth emerges orange in early spring, transitions to bright yellow by late spring, then softens to chartreuse green by midsummer before turning orange-red in autumn. The cultivar reaches approximately 6 feet tall by 5 feet wide at maturity, developing a shrubby, wide form that fills its space effectively. According to the growers at Mr Maple, this cultivar is valued for its exceptional textural density, each leaf lobe appears as an individual leaflet, and produces even brighter, almost bleached yellow tones with pink-to-shrimp highlights when given early morning sun; it pairs well as a contrast plant alongside red upright or weeping maples and benefits from light afternoon shade in warmer zones while still thriving in open sunlight.
