Acer palmatum 'Goshiki kotohime' Dwarf Japanese Maple

'Goshiki kotohime' is an extremely slow-growing dwarf Japanese maple reaching 4-5 feet in 10 years, valued for its exceptionally dense, tightly layered branching habit and small, flat deep green leaves that create a distinctive bonsai-like texture. New growth often displays fine speckling or a slight pink to bronze flush, and fall color transitions through bright orange and red tones. According to the growers at Mr Maple, this cultivar is notably heat-tolerant and durable in the landscape, performs well in containers with good drainage, and can be grown from rooted cuttings for bonsai purposes, though grafted specimens are preferred for garden planting. Its compact form and small foliage make it an excellent choice for confined spaces, conifer beds, and mixed plantings where it provides striking textural contrast to larger or more colorful Japanese maples.
