Acer palmatum 'Fjelheim' Dwarf Coral Bark Japanese Maple

'Fjelheim' is a dwarf cultivar of Acer palmatum that originated as a witches'-broom on 'Sango Kaku' and retains that parent's distinctive coral-red bark while remaining significantly more compact. The palmate foliage turns brilliant yellow in autumn, and the plant typically reaches only 5 feet in height and width at maturity, making it suitable for small gardens and container cultivation. It thrives in part shade to full sun and requires well-draining soil, as it is susceptible to issues in wet conditions, particularly during prolonged cold, wet springs.
