Acer palmatum 'Fireglow' Red Upright Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum 'Fireglow' is an upright Japanese maple with large, broad leaves that emerge dark red in spring, hold their color exceptionally well through summer with a luminous quality, and transition to fiery red with orange undertones in autumn. The foliage is notably thin and translucent, creating a distinctive glowing effect when backlit by sun. This cultivar grows at a moderate rate of approximately one foot per year, reaching 9-12 feet tall in 15-20 years with a vase-shaped form spreading 4-6 feet wide. According to the growers at Mr Maple, 'Fireglow' is a selection from Fratelli Ghirardelli Nursery in Italy and represents an ideal midsize red upright that fits most home landscapes without outgrowing them. It performs exceptionally well in full sun, even in Zone 8 heat on the East Coast, and thrives in zones 5-9 with good drainage; morning sun and afternoon shade optimize its signature red coloration and glowing leaf backs.
