Acer palmatum 'Elmwood Spreader' Weeping Japanese Maple

'Elmwood Spreader' is a low, spreading weeping Japanese maple with finely dissected laceleaf foliage that emerges bronze-red in spring, flushing with pink and red over darker green for a multicolored effect, then transitions to green through summer before displaying yellow, orange, and red autumn tones. The tree typically reaches 4 feet tall and spreads to 6-7 feet wide over ten years, with a cascading, umbrella-like habit suited to underplantings and foreground positions where height is not desired. Notably, the young stems and winter bark display yellow-green coloration, providing rare winter interest for a laceleaf cultivar. This selection by propagator Will Divine combines distinctive architecture and season-long color; the leaves are notably large for a laceleaf with deeply serrated edges, creating fine texture in the landscape.
