About
Acer palmatum 'Chitose yama' (Exbury form) is a green-leafed clone of Japanese origin, distinct from an earlier red cultivar of the same name. New foliage emerges pale green with red tips and white pubescence, followed by abundant small red flowers in spring; leaves mature to olive-green with prominent texture by summer, accompanied by ripe red samaras. The cultivar is renowned for its bright red autumn color and typically develops a spreading, graceful habit that is as wide as it is tall. This form received the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit in 1993.
