Acer palmatum 'Catalina yatsubusa' Dwarf Japanese Maple

'Catalina yatsubusa' is a variegated dwarf Japanese maple with distinctive lime-green to cream margins and irregular blotches overlaying dark green on new growth, while mature leaves display darker centers with lighter green tips and a notably elongated, pointed form. The cultivar exhibits a distinctly upright, densely-layered branching habit creating a compact, conical appearance, reaching approximately 4 feet tall in 10-15 years with a proportionally narrow spread. Fall color transitions through orange to red, enriched by swirling cream variegation from the variegated foliage. According to the growers at Mr Maple, this cultivar is a variegated sport of Mikawa yatsubusa that retains its variegation reliably without fading, performs well in full sun to part shade in zones 5-9, and suits both container cultivation and landscape planting.
