Acer palmatum 'Beni ukigumo' Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum 'Beni ukigumo' is a slow-growing, upright Japanese maple with distinctive spring foliage of red leaves marked with pink and white variegation, resembling a red-based version of the 'Ukigumo' pattern. As summer progresses, the variegation fades, though the cultivar frequently produces a second flush of even more vividly colored new growth in midsummer. Mature trees reach approximately 6 feet in height over ten years. This variety prefers part sun and requires careful watering, as its slow-developing root system is sensitive to excess moisture, particularly during establishment.
