About
'Beni hagoromo' is a vigorous, upright Japanese maple with deeply lobed, feathery foliage characteristic of the cecilifolium group, often likened to angel feathers. Leaves emerge bright red-pink in early spring, mature to green with red new growth throughout summer, and turn brilliant scarlet in fall. The cultivar reaches approximately 15 feet tall within 20 years and is notably one of the fastest-growing Japanese maples, often putting on 12-18 inches of growth annually; it demonstrates strong heat and sun tolerance, thriving even in full sun in warm climates. According to the growers at Mr Maple, 'Beni hagoromo' was brought back from Japan and introduced to the United States in 2008, and represents the red-pink variant of the 'Hagoromo' selection.
