Acer palmatum 'Atrolineare' Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum 'Atrolineare' is an upright, vase-shaped cultivar with distinctively narrow, strap-like linear lobed leaves that impart an elegant, lace-like texture to the canopy. Spring foliage emerges deep maroon to cherry red, developing brighter red flushes of new growth through early summer before darkening to deep maroon by midsummer, then shifting to orange or red in fall. The tree typically reaches 6-8 feet in height within ten years and grows with nearly equal width, creating a full silhouette. According to the growers at Mr Maple, 'Atrolineare' performs well in zones 5-9 and tolerates good sun exposure on the East Coast through zone 8, though partial shade is preferable in hotter zone 9 locations; the cultivar pairs effectively with palmate-leafed maples to create textural contrast in the landscape.
