About
'Aoba jo' is a dwarf Japanese maple characterized by tight internodes and compact growth, reaching 3-4 feet in height and width over ten years. The leaves are rounder and less elongated than related cultivars, with variable leaf shapes including both flat and slightly cupped forms. Spring growth emerges bronze, transitioning through bronze-red-tipped chartreuse before maturing to dark green by late spring; autumn color shifts to bright yellow with orange-red highlights. Best foliage development occurs with afternoon shade protection.
