Acer palmatum 'Akane' Spring Color Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum 'Akane' is a Japanese maple distinguished by its exceptional spring foliage, which emerges in pink-red and orange tones before transitioning to deep yellow by late spring and summer. During this color shift, the canopy displays a dynamic range of yellow highlighted with pink and orange accents. In autumn, the yellow leaves develop bright orange and red markings, creating a full spectrum of seasonal color. The cultivar performs best in late afternoon shade or filtered light and benefits from drip irrigation rather than overhead watering to minimize fungal issues on the foliage.
