Acer japonicum 'Green Cascade' Japanese Maple

Acer japonicum 'Green Cascade' is a weeping Japanese maple with deeply dissected, full-moon-type foliage that emerges bright chartreuse in early spring, matures to mild green by midsummer, and transforms through yellows, oranges, and reds, often simultaneously, in autumn. It develops a low, spreading, mounding habit with cascading branches, reaching approximately 4 feet tall and 6-7 feet wide in ten years. According to the growers at Mr Maple, this cultivar was found and introduced into the nursery trade by Art Wright, a notable maple propagator of his era. Best growth occurs with afternoon shade protection, and the tree's delicate, lace-leaf texture and compact form make it well-suited to container gardening on patios or as a textural companion to upright red Japanese maples in the landscape. Hardy in zones 5-9.
