Acer japonicum 'Abby’s Weeping' Dwarf Full Moon Japanese Maple

'Abby's Weeping' is a dwarf full moon Japanese maple with large, deeply divided green leaves that transition through yellows, oranges, and deep reds in autumn, often displaying multiple colors simultaneously across the canopy. This cultivar exhibits a distinctly prostrate, spreading habit, growing low and wide to reach approximately 2-3 feet tall by 3-4 feet wide at maturity. According to the growers at Mr Maple, 'Abby's Weeping' emerged as a newer japonicum selection around 2009 and occupies a middle ground between extremely compact forms and taller cultivars, making it useful for gardens requiring a smaller acer japonicum with substantial foliage. The tree produces showy red catkin-like tassels at bud break in spring and benefits from afternoon shade in warmer climates.
