Acer calcaratum Rare Chinese Maple

Acer calcaratum is a rare Chinese maple in section Palmata, closely related to Japanese maple but distinctly its own species. Its leaves are uniquely tri-lobed with rounded lobes, flushing bright pink-red in early spring before progressing through orange and yellow to mature green; summer flushes repeat this colorful emergence, and fall foliage ranges from bright yellow to orange. Growth habit is moderate, reaching an estimated 12-15 feet in 20 years when grafted onto Acer palmatum rootstock. Hardy to at least zone 6B, this tree has demonstrated surprising cold tolerance, surviving winters with temperatures below 0 °F.
