About

Acer calcaratum is a rare Chinese maple within section Palmata, closely related to Japanese maples and full moon maples. The leaves are distinctively tri-lobed with rounded lobes and display striking seasonal color progression: bright pink-red new growth in spring that transitions through orange and yellow to green, with repeated pink-red flushes throughout summer, then bright yellow to orange fall color. This tree is grafted onto Acer palmatum rootstock and reaches approximately 12-15 feet tall over 20 years. Hardy through zone 6B and lower, it performs reliably in cold climates despite its tropical origins.
