Acer buergerianum 'Wako nishiki' Variegated Trident Maple

'Wako nishiki' is a variegated trident maple prized for its exceptionally consistent white spring foliage. New leaves emerge bright pink before rapidly transitioning to white with green veining, then shifting to green by midsummer as temperatures rise, a natural adaptation that allows the cultivar to thrive in full sun without chlorotic stress. In autumn, the foliage turns bold red. The tree grows vigorously at approximately 1.5 feet per year, reaching roughly 15 feet over 20 years, and is valued for its durability and landscape presence. According to the growers at Mr Maple, 'Wako nishiki' outperforms similar white-variegated tridents like Ukigumo in color consistency and holds its pale foliage longer in afternoon shade; it pairs striking visual contrast with darker red Japanese maples and brightens shaded garden spots where red cultivars would fade into the background.
