About
'Michael Steinhardt' is a golden trident maple with foliage that emerges bright yellow in spring, fading to golden-yellow through summer and holding color well even in full sun. Fall color is particularly striking, combining orange, red, and yellow tones simultaneously. This cultivar exhibits a vigorous, upright growth habit, reaching approximately 15 feet in 10-12 years and producing over 18 inches of growth annually. According to the growers at Mr Maple, this selection was discovered by Dawn Shadow in Middle Tennessee and is notably heat-tolerant, unusual among golden maples, making it suitable for full-sun sites where most yellow cultivars would fade or burn. Hardy in zones 5-9, 'Michael Steinhardt' is prized for its rapid establishment and shade-casting capability, and proves highly responsive to pruning, making it popular for both landscape and bonsai cultivation.
